A pitch raise requires more time and effort than a regular tuning. If your piano has not been tuned in many years, it will more than likely be too flat to fine-tune it in one pass. The piano strings will not hold up to their proper tension and pitch levels. The purpose of a pitch raise is to raise the piano strings' tension levels before proceeding with a fine tuning. It is highly recommended that your piano be tuned at least twice a year to prevent further damage in order to keep your cherished piano healthy.
Repairs
What's that annoying sound? It could be a string buzz, broken hammer, a loose screw, a broken string, or the key itself. Perhaps it is some other malfunction. Are you splintering your fingers when you slide down the keys like Jerry Lee Lewis? I also repair keytops.
Regulation
Each key has many points of adjustments which need to work together to produce the sound you hear when you play just one note. For example, sometimes the pianist may experience too much or too little key travel. Maybe there are a few keys on your piano that feel a bit sluggish in repetition because of a friction problem. Regulation is best described as 'adjustment of action parts.' Action parts should be consistently regulated to achieve the full energy being transferred into the key. Always remember that all your energy starts at the keytop.
Happy Songs
After your piano has been promptly and carefully serviced, you may hear a very short musical piece at random. This is for you to listen to what your fine tuned piano sounds like. There is no extra charge for this part of the service. :)
